Emmanuelle Béart Biography
Emmanuelle Béart (born August 14, 1963 in Gassin, Var not far from St. Tropez, on the French Riviera.) is a French actress, model and ambassador for UNICEF.
Early life
Béart was born in Gassin, Var (not far from St. Tropez), on the French Riviera. She is the daughter of the French singer and poet Guy Béart, and actress Geneviève Galéa. In a recent trip to Croatia, she revealed that one of her grandmothers was Croatian.
As a thirteen-year-old she obtained an acting role in the 1976 film Demain les mômes. In her teens she appeared in bit parts in television then went to Montreal, Quebec, Canada to work as a nanny before returning to France the following year to attend drama school in Paris.
Career
Emmanuelle in 1986 achieved fame with her role opposite Yves Montand, in the film Manon des Sources. For her performance, she won the 1987 César Award for "Best Supporting Actress." She also won a "Best Actress" award at the Moscow International Film Festival for her starring role in the 1995 film, Une Femme française. She met her spouse, Daniel Auteuil, making Amour en douce, L' (1985), after a ten-year relationship, she divorced him and re-married.
In addition to her award for Best Supporting Actress, she has also been nominated for a César Award for her roles in the following years: 1985 - Un amour interdit, 1986 - L'Amour en douce, 1990 - Les Enfants du désordre, 1992 - La Belle noiseuse, 1993 - Un cour en hiver and 1996 - Nelly et Monsieur Arnaud.
In addition to her screen work, Béart is also known for her social activism. She is an ambassador for UNICEF, and has made news for her opposition to France's anti-immigration legislation. In 1996, she made headlines when, defending the rights of the "sans-papiers" (illegal immigrants), she was forcibly removed after her group's occupation of a Paris church.
The film which made her famous in France was Manon des sources (1986). She played the role of a blonde shepherd dancing nude in the fields. Director Tom McLoughlin choose her out of 5000 candidates for her first Hollywood picture, Date with an Angel (1987). Emmanuelle is a very sensitive and a perfectionist. For the part of Camille in the film Un coeur en hiver (1992), she had taken violin lessons for a whole year. Her biggest success was the art film Belle noiseuse, La (1991) with Michel Piccoli, directed by Jacques Rivette, as a nude model.
In 1995 chosen by Empire magazine as one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in film history (#32). In 1997 named #19 of Sci-Fi's Sexy 50, by Femme Fatales magazine. Member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004.
She is mother of two children, daughter with Daniel Auteuil, Nelly (born April 1992) and son Johan, with music producer David Moreau (March 1996).
In the Christmas 2006 she make the annual campaign for H&M, swedish lingerie brand, as lingerie model. This campaign provoked negative reactions amongst Swedish feminists (of the organization "Feministisk initiativ" (FI) - Feminist Initiative) who labeled the campaign 'pornofication'.
